A Weirsdale man was arrested on drug charges after being stopped with fentanyl and needles in his backpack.
A deputy stopped 34-year-old Neil Wayne Rider in a green Saturn sedan with a dimly lit license plate at Interstate 75 and County Road 48 in Bushnell around 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
While asking the female driver for her license, the deputy noticed Rider in the passenger seat with a black backpack between his legs. The deputy searched the backpack after a K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. It contained a small plastic baggie with 0.9 grams of fentanyl and several hypodermic needles, the report said.
Rider was later asked to identify himself, but he refused to do so. His fingerprints were used to find his information, the report said…
