KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Construction is picking back up across the metro after being paused during the World Cup, and one Westport business says the disruption is costing them customers.
Emily Jacobs is the general manager of the Westport Flea Market. She said the construction has slowed the business down noticeably, especially during the lunch hour.
“People want to be in and out for lunch, they’ve only got 30 minutes,” Jacobs said. “So if they have to drive all the way around that construction, then they don’t have time to come here. And now that they’ve got this whole stretch blocked off, I mean, our lunch business is like a quarter of what it used to be.”
Staff picking up extra hours
Jacobs said the drop in business is also affecting her servers and bartenders, who depend on tip money.
“Everybody’s picking up extra hours to try to make ends meet,” Jacobs said. “It’s definitely been really hard on morale for the staff.”…
