Did you know the game of mini golf traces back to 19th-century Scotland? Women were interested in playing golf, but they were commonly banned from traditional courses because sports activity was considered “unladylike.”
So in 1867, a group of women started the St. Andrews Ladies’ Golf Club (now named the St. Andrews Ladies’ Putting Club) to have their own place to play. The putting green had nine holes with obstacles — the earliest example of what we would consider a miniature golf course.
