LUBBOCK, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott said making things more affordable is at the top of this priority list heading into the 2027 legislative session.
During a stop in Lubbock on Friday, Abbott talked about plans to lower the cost of living for people in Texas. The main things he plans on lowering the cost on is property taxes, health care, insurance, housing and college.

Abbott wants to limit how much home values can increase each year for tax purposes. He also wants voters to approve property tax increases by a 2/3 vote. Another part of his plan would have the state take over the cost of funding public education that is now paid for through school property taxes.
Abbott also proposed a new health insurance option that he says would give Texans more affordable coverage. His office says the plan could lower insurance costs for families and small businesses.
