Power outages across Southern California disrupted traffic signals and police communications Sunday as rain, gusty winds and dangerous surf from Hurricane Marie moved through the region.
In Arcadia, multiple traffic signals went dark while the Police Department itself lost power, knocking out its non-emergency and business phone lines and eventually forcing officials to close the station’s front lobby.
While 911 remained operational, emergency calls were being answered by the Monrovia Police Department and dispatched to Arcadia police officers.
