ANN ARBOR, Michigan. The Ann Arbor food and drink community is grieving the loss of Tommy York, a longtime mentor, community pillar, and the owner and operator of YORK Food + Drink.
Word of his death spread on September 6, 2026, closing a chapter on a life built around his community, his business, and the people he loved.
A Career Built on Hospitality
York spent more than four decades in the restaurant and hospitality world. He got his start at Espresso Royale before moving into the Zingerman’s family of businesses, where he picked up much of the philosophy that would shape his own career.
Almost thirty years ago, he combined that hospitality background with a degree in social work to co-found what was then called Morgan & York, a neighborhood market and eatery built on the idea that people should always come before profit.…
