AUSTIN, TX — Federal investigators are examining whether terrorism played a role in a mass shooting outside a downtown Austin bar early Sunday that left two people dead and 14 others injured. The suspect was killed after officers confronted him near the busy West Sixth Street entertainment district.
The FBI said there are indicators in the case, including items found on the suspect and in his vehicle, that point to a possible connection to terrorism. Officials stressed, however, that the motive has not been determined and the case is still being reviewed with help from federal and local authorities.
Police said emergency calls began shortly before 2 a.m. as gunfire erupted around Buford’s Bar. Officers who were already assigned to patrol the area reached the scene quickly and exchanged fire with the suspect.
