SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– One quick look at Sunday’s rainfall map, and you can see once again how clusters of thunderstorms either brought a deluge of rain or skipped over neighboring areas just a few miles away.
We’ll start with the Sioux Falls area. One of the best rainfall events of the summer fell just north and east of Sioux Falls. An embedded line of thunderstorms with pockets of over 2 inches fell between I-29 and the Minnesota border, including Garretson and Flandreau. A Cocorahs reporter from Dell Rapids measured nearly 4 inches from those downpours.
Here’s a list of other rain totals from Sunday. In addition to Garretson and Flandreau, Onida, OaComa, and Lake Andes all picked up over an inch.
Some of the heaviest rain fell just south of Luverne near the Iowa border, with Doppler radar estimates of closer to 6 inches of rain.
But here’s the other story. Travel just a few miles away to northeastern Rock and northwestern Nobles County, and hardly a drop fell. The city of Sioux Falls picked up a few more drops at the airport, with an official total of .07″…
