Alachua County Commissioners address homelessness following 2 deaths in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Alachua County commissioners announced a proclamation for Suicide Prevention Month at their meeting Monday morning.

Commissioners also said they are trying to take a step toward helping people experiencing homelessness following two suicides in Gainesville in the past month.

Housing expert speaks to commissioners

Abigail Perret-Gentil, a housing expert and friend of 37-year-old Karrie Ford, told commissioners that finding ways for better housing and healthcare is a step toward preventing suicide. Ford jumped off a parking garage last month.
