KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — McKay’s may be closed, but East Tennesseans may soon have a new place to buy and trade used books and movies — at least if the former employees have anything to say about it.
More than a dozen former McKay’s workers are raising funds to open their own used book store called McBroom’s Closet. Besides books and movies, it is also planned to have records, gadgets and decorative items.

“We received guidance from worker owned cooperatives based all over the nation, and now we are setting out to raise the funds and finally make this dream come true,” the workers wrote on their website. “To put people over profits, give our successes back to the community, and stick around so that future generations can grow up reading and exploring.”
They plan to have a table at the Knoxville Punk Rock Flea Market on Saturday…
