Hamlin Township fire crews rescue boater stranded in the Grand River

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Crews from the Hamlin Township Fire Department rescued a stranded boater from the Grand River Wednesday afternoon.

The department says they were dispatched at around 1:20 p.m. to the river between the Smithville Dam and Waverly Road after a “boater in distress” called authorities.

The caller said his boat’s motor had stopped working and he was stuck in the river. He noted he was oxygen-dependent and did not think he would be able to safely make it to shore on his own.

Fire rescue crews were able to tow the boat back to a safe location, allowing everyone to come ashore…
