9 Small-Town Restaurants Worth the Drive From Knoxville
Small-town restaurants are some of the best places to eat in East Tennessee, especially when you are willing to get off the interstate and drive a little farther than your usual dinner routine. Knoxville certainly has plenty of great restaurants, but sometimes the meal you remember most comes from an old country store, a tiny hometown diner, or a family restaurant where homemade pie is still considered an essential food group.
A good restaurant can also turn an ordinary Saturday into a mini road trip. Pick a town, take the scenic route, eat somewhere the locals love, and wander around a little before heading home. It is one of my favorite ways to enjoy East Tennessee without planning an entire weekend away.
If that sounds like your kind of day, these small-town restaurants are worth putting on your list. Some are close enough for lunch, while others give you an excuse to make an afternoon of it.
