SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)– The Salvation Army will no longer by expanding on property that is tied to the “Weeping Time.”
Wednesday, the Savannah Housing Authority voted against allowing the Salvation Army to move forward with plans for the site. They intended to build the “Center of Hope,” a facility that was intended to provide housing and supportive services.
The property along Augusta Ave. has been at the center of debate for years. While a study concluded the site itself was not part of the 1859 slave auction known as the Weeping Time, the location remains symbolic for the community…
