CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Charleston County is the largest school district in the Lowcountry, but new numbers show it also leads the region in something no parent wants to hear: weapons found on campus.
Each year throughout America, hundreds of weapons are found inside schools. And unfortunately, that remains the reality at schools here in the Lowcountry.
Numbers from the South Carolina Department of Education show the total of weapon offenses by individual schools. The total number counts below are from 2022 to 2025:
- Berkeley County School District: 357
- Dorchester School District Two: 188
- Dorchester School District Four: 1
- Charleston County School District: 465
- Colleton County School District: 54
- Georgetown County School District: 33
Note: Any weapons considered “other or miscellaneous” are not counted in the State’s total …
