At its September 10, 2026 meeting, the Huntsville City Council laid out more details on the city’s proposed tax increment financing (TIF) district in Limestone County, which includes the incoming Eli Lilly facility.
The proposed district, known as TIF 8, covers more than 9,000 acres both north and south of Interstate 565 and includes the site for the $6 billion Eli Lilly campus.
TIF districts capture revenue stemming from future growth in property tax revenue generated by new development within the district. Property tax rates are not increased and funding for schools is not reduced…
