ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) — Twenty-five years later, Jay LaScolea still remembers the calls that came into the WENY newsroom on Sept. 11, 2001.
“I remember there was one woman who called, and she was very emotional,” said Jay LaScolea, then the station’s main anchor. “And she asked that question — Jay, is this the end of the world? Are we going to die? And I took my news anchor hat off in that moment.”
“That wasn’t the first call,” he said. “There were other calls that were like, what is going on? What does this mean for us?”…
