NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY)- The Newport News Sheriff’s Office will hold an annual car and bike show to raise funds for the department’s Project Lifesaver. The show will be held Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Todd Stadium (12465 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23606).
NNSO calls Project Lifesaver “the single most important service within the City of Newport News to assist in finding a family member, loved one, or patient who is accustomed or inclined to wander”.
The program monitors children and adults living with Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down Syndrome, or a traumatic brain injury. Individuals wear a wrist or ankle bracelet that is equipped with a personalized transmitter. In the event a loved one wanders off, Newport News Sheriff’s Office personnel are dispatched to find the missing loved one.
Project Lifesaver can cost up to $350 for the setup, and $20 a month for maintenance. However, because Sheriff Gabe Morgan believes the true value of the program lies in the peace of mind and sense of security it gives families, he provides it free of charge for residents of Newport News…
