North Carolina and 11 local governments have reached a settlement with Chemours, DuPont, and Corteva over “forever chemical” contamination tied to the Fayetteville Works plant and to PFAS-containing firefighting foam used in North Carolina.
The settlement announced Thursday by Attorney General Jeff Jackson states the companies will pay $455 million over 15 years to resolve claims brought by the state and the local entities.
The 11 local entities are Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, New Hanover, Robeson, and Sampson counties; the Town of Wrightsville Beach; the City of Lumberton; the Village of Bald Head Island; and the Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority…
