(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) introduced two new members of their animal family: two baby porcupines, or “porcupettes,” born to first-time parents, Waffles and Thistle, on Friday, Sept. 11.
The babies were born on Aug. 16 to the pair of African Cape porcupines, and they have been bonding behind the scenes. The babies, which are doing well, don’t have names yet, and their sexes haven’t been identified.
The porcupettes have been marked with two different colors to help handlers tell them apart, allowing them to monitor the prickly babies’ weight and overall health as they grow. They are nursing and have started to try solid foods, and have been enjoying exploring their behind-the-scenes habitat, according to CMZoo…
