Piers Morgan has issued a strong warning ahead of the release of Earl Spencer’s new memoir about his late sister, Princess Diana.
The 61-year-old host of Piers Morgan Uncensored appeared on The Royals Uncensored alongside Katie Nicholl, Jo Elvin, Grant Harrold, and Dr. Ann Kaplan-Mulholland to discuss Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer’s upcoming book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. The memoir promises to be a deeply personal account, set to hit shelves on September 22.
Broadcasting from Lympne Castle during the September 11 episode of The Royals Uncensored, Morgan suggested the Royal Family is bracing itself for what he described as a “bombshell” book that could include “damaging attacks.” His comments come in the wake of his recent criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whom he called “clowns” following a letter from King Charles.
Reflecting on the timing of the memoir and Harry’s reported documentary about Diana, Morgan questioned the impact, asking, “It’s 25 years later. Who wins from that?”
He warned viewers that Earl Spencer’s book “is going to be an absolute bombshell,” noting Spencer’s powerful speech at Diana’s funeral and suggesting the memoir may settle old scores – potentially including Morgan himself. “I’ve had a rocky old ride with old Earl Spencer,” he admitted.
Morgan concluded that the combination of Spencer’s book and Harry’s documentary seems intended to stir division within the Royal Family, “bringing back the ghost of Diana in this way.”
In a description of Swan Song, the book promises to recount “the astonishing story” of Spencer’s life with Diana and the tragic week of her death, almost three decades ago. Ahead of the release, Spencer shared his motivation, explaining that repeated interview requests had convinced him to put his own memories on record rather than rely on “untruths” circulated over time.
Spencer, a Sunday Times best-selling author, emphasized his goal: “to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective,” echoing the positive tone of his funeral eulogy. He hopes the book will resonate both with those who remember Diana and with younger readers who may come to understand the woman behind the public image.
Morgan also addressed the recent controversy surrounding King Charles’ letter clarifying the royal status of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The letter reaffirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would remain non-working members of the Royal Family after their recent return to the UK with their children.
However, Harry and Meghan reportedly expressed surprise at the letter and said they were not consulted beforehand. Morgan commented on the ongoing tensions, describing Harry as “permanently enraged” and suggesting that his move to California did not bring the peace he sought. Morgan remarked that in Los Angeles, people “just don’t care” about the couple anymore.
He also speculated that financial pressures may have influenced their return to the UK, accusing them of ignoring royal protocols. Morgan warned that their presence could create “a rival royal family” on British soil, attempting to enjoy royal privileges without fully committing to royal duties-a situation the late Queen reportedly did not support.
“They want to be HRH and behave like royals with all the trappings, including castles, but they don’t want to put a hard shift in,” Morgan concluded.
