(NewsNation) — Texas firefighters identified a potential public safety hazard after rescuing two puppies from dangerous conditions this week.
The Little York Fire Department said on social media Wednesday that it was alerted to the helpless pups after a good Samaritan spotted one underneath a sidewalk in Houston and reached out.

Firefighters and Harris County animal control officers responded to the scene, the LYFD said. Within two hours of digging, they’d identified and rescued two puppies and set a trap for a third.
During the operation, crews also discovered a “large washed-out void beneath the sidewalk” near an elementary school, the LYFD added. This prompted them to alert county officials, who are now addressing the issue.
