MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Police and Mobile Fire-Rescue are on the scene of a gas leak in North Crichton. A leak was reported on a two-inch gas main at about 11:45 Sunday morning. An official on the scene said about 20 homes were evacuated in a neighborhood near Bay Shore Avenue.
You can hear the hiss of the gas leak and smell the odor. Mobile Police cruisers are blocking roads leading into the neighborhood. Officials say they’re waiting on the gas company to turn off the main.
It’s not clear what started the leak. An official said it happened near where a home was under construction but no one was there when they arrived. No injuries have been reported.
