Cary schools dismiss early due to water main break; Customers rush to buy bottled water

A major water main break in Cary forced early dismissals at 31 Wake County schools, closed part of a highway and sent people scrambling for bottled water on Monday.

Crews closed part of NC 55 early Monday morning while they worked to contain the break and make repairs. Just before noon, one lane in both directions reopened.

Parents were notified shortly after morning drop-off that schools would be letting out early. Steven Mizer of Cary said the disruption added strain to an already long workday…
