Lexington activates Phase One heat plan as heat expected to reach 95 degrees

Lexington officials will activate Phase One of the city’s Heat Plan beginning at noon Tuesday as dangerously hot conditions are expected to persist through Thursday evening.

The city announced Monday that Phase One will remain in effect from noon Sept. 15 until 6 p.m. Sept. 17. Officials said the heat index is forecast to reach 95 degrees or higher during that period.

As part of the plan, LexTran will provide free rides to cooling stations for people experiencing homelessness, while outreach teams will distribute supplies throughout the community. Community centers also will remain open until the early evening to provide relief from the heat…
