Fans of Peking duck and char siu bao will have one fewer place to go after a historic San Francisco dim sum house closes one of its two downtown restaurants this weekend.
Sunday is the final day of service at Yank Sing (opens in new tab)’s 27-year-old location at 101 Spear St. in the Rincon Center. Co-owner Vera Chan Waller told The Standard that the lease has run its course. But that doesn’t mean the end is nigh for the restaurant and its lauded chile pepper sauce. “We will continue welcoming and serving our guests at our 49 Stevenson St. location, just five blocks away,” Chan Waller said.
Founded by Alice and George Chan in 1958, Yank Sing was originally in a 35-seat space on Powell Street near Chinatown. Over the decades, other locations came and went, including an address on Broadway that served as a filming location for Woody Allen’s 1972 comedy “Play It Again, Sam.”…
