ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Kicking off this week of the New Mexico State Fair is the Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge, and KRQE’S own David Romero is one of this year’s judges. As well as the chef of last year’s winner, Isleta Grill, who was excited to be on the other side of the plate this year.
“Don’t be afraid to try new things – step out of the box just a little bit and try it,” said Isleta Grill Chef and Judge Leticia Romero. “I’m looking for flavor, taste, seasoning, components of texture, freshness, everything.”
Eight different restaurants across the state offered up their best burger to compete in two categories, “blind judging” and the people’s choice.
