‘We are one family’: African fest in Harrisburg focuses on unity, understanding

For the second year, the African Cultural Festival is bringing unity and cultural understanding to central Pennsylvania.

Event organizer Wole Adeniyi has lived in Harrisburg since 1997, after moving from Nigeria, and believes the event matters because he says cultural festivals highlighting the African diaspora are hard to find in central Pennsylvania.

“People don’t understand other people’s culture,” Adeniyi said. “So, for me to start something like this around here means a lot because I’ve stayed here for a long time. I always say, I’ve got a mix of both [Nigerian and American culture] in my life.”…
