ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Family and friends gathered Monday night to remember their loved one who died a year ago after he was working at an auto parts store. According to Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Ismael Tena and his father went to O’Reilly Auto Parts off Coors and Blake to exchange an oil filter they bought earlier in the day.
New Mexico man sentenced in connection to fraudulent COVID-19 loans
Deputies said that when Tena asked for free containers of motor oil and was told no, he grabbed them anyway and left. Deputies said two employees, 18-year-old Jesus Valdez and 47-year-old Richard Newman followed Tena out of the store where Tena got a gun from his truck and shot both men, killing them.
Monday night, family and friends of Newman and Valdez held a one-year vigil. “It’s hard because a year is gone and the world kept going. But for us, it’s still,” said June Newman, Richard Newman’s wife.
Last year, Tena pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and aggravated stalking. He is scheduled to appear in court this week…
