Overturned 18-wheeler carrying hazardous material shuts down US 90 in Mobile, officials say

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – An overturned 18-wheeler has shut down US 90 in Mobile following a hazardous materials leak Tuesday morning, according to officials.

ALEA said troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash around 11:20 a.m. along U.S. 90 near Telegraph Road and Interstate 165.

According to the Mobile officials, the commercial truck was transporting sodium hydroxide, a hazardous material. The crash caused diesel fuel to spill from the truck. Fire officials said the spill has been contained. Crews in hazmat suits were spotted working at the scene.

Officials said the roadway is closed in the area and will remain shut down for an undetermined amount of time. Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes to avoid significant delays…
