KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A new and improved sidewalk is open, connecting Sutherland Avenue and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus in Knoxville.
The sidewalk is part of a $1.5-million city, state, and federal investment to enhance Liberty Street between Sutherland Avenue and Division Street. Improvements to the area include a new sidewalk on the east side of Liberty Street, bike lane connections, new drainage improvements, and a traffic signal upgrade. This will allow bicyclists, pedestrians, transit riders, and drivers to share the road safely.

Noah Duncan, vice president of business and student services at TCAT Knoxville, told 6 News that the sidewalk connecting to their campus at 1100 Liberty Street was exciting because it makes it safer for TCAT students to walk in the area.
“This gives our students more access to get safely from one building to the next and from their communities, because we have students from all surrounding Liberty Street, Sutherland, Middlebrook, all over the area that travel to our campus. This gives them a safe way to do that,” said Duncan…
