A Belleview man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after almost hitting a deputy while on the way back from a friend’s house.
A deputy on patrol approached a sharp curve near Southeast 106th Court in Belleview at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. At the same time, 22-year-old Nicholas Leevi Schwartz sped toward the deputy in an older white Ford Mustang at 45 mph.
The vehicle was in the deputy’s lane and nearly struck him head-on. The deputy turned around in time to see the vehicle turn onto Southeast 128th Lane. Through the tree line, he watched the vehicle’s brake lights go off as it parked in front of Schwartz’s home in that area, the report said.
Once the deputy pulled behind the vehicle, there was no one inside. He heard a door close at the back of the residence and engine sounds from the vehicle, indicating it had recently been running.
