Tacoma Humane has a new leader after four-month search. What we know

Chelsea Farnsworth, a veterinary medical director, has been appointed executive director of the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, according to the nonprofit.

Tacoma Humane announced Farnsworth as its new leader in a news release sent Friday. She replaces former CEO Leslie Dalzell, who departed in May as the nonprofit faced backlash after a dog under its care attacked and killed a pet at the Tacoma City Marathon. Dalzell had previously served as the organization’s chief financial officer.

“Dr. Farnsworth brings an exceptional blend of clinical expertise, operational discipline, and compassionate leadership,” the Tacoma Humane Board of Directors said in a statement. “Her commitment to building internal trust, empowering staff, and upholding the shelter’s mission makes her the ideal leader to guide our organization into its next chapter.”…
