ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fl (WWSB) — A man has died following an apparent drowning Friday afternoon near Passage Key, off the coast of Anna Maria Island, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders were dispatched to the area just west of the key around 4:30 p.m. for a water rescue.
Deputies said two adults had been swimming near their anchored boat when they were caught in a rapidly incoming tide. A large wave pushed one of the swimmers underwater, and he did not resurface. The second swimmer immediately called 911…
