WINTERSET, Iowa — The Madison County man accused of murdering his own mother intends to rely on the defense of intoxication during his upcoming trial, court filings show.
Last month, Theodore Corkrean, 23, demanded a speedy trial. The judge set an Oct. 13 date for the proceedings to begin.
Theodore is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the June 21 shooting death of Tammy Corkean. The body of the 60-year-old was found on June 22 by sheriff’s deputies during a welfare check of the family’s rural Van Meter home.
Theodore is accused of committing the execution-style shooting before trying to cover it up. He was arrested in West Des Moines while allegedly working on a plan to flee to Mexico, according to court records.
