Kentucky could have easily trailed 14-0 after the first quarter of Saturday’s road game against No. 9 Texas A&M. But Sam Greene made sure the Aggies had nothing but a goose egg on the scoreboard going into the second frame.
Greene, the outside linebacker transfer from Southern California, came up with a pair of massive defensive stops for the Wildcats early on in College Station. Both times, he ended lengthy drives for the Aggies’ offense. Those stops allowed Kentucky’s own offense to settle in without having to play catch up. That led to a 21-0 third-quarter advantage for UK, and ultimately, a huge 31-21 win for Will Stein‘s program.
“Giant. Giant,” Stein said postgame of Greene’s game-changing plays. “Getting stopped on downs is like a turnover. That was a huge momentum shift for us. They were driving the ball a good amount in the first half. I think we only had 21 plays at the half on offense…
