PRICHARD, Ala. (NBC 15) — A former Prichard finance director accused of stealing overtime pay claims the case against her is retaliation by Mayor Carletta Davis. Kim Wilson is charged with one count of theft by deception. She appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing, where her attorney argued the charge should be dismissed.
Attorney Christine Hernandez said Wilson was caught in the middle of an ongoing financial dispute between Davis and the Prichard City Council. In May, the council used discretionary funds to hire an investigator to conduct a forensic audit. Wilson, who was finance director at the time, issued the $5,500 check to pay for it. In an ethics complaint Wilson later filed against Davis, Wilson alleges she was fired the day after processing that payment.
“Absolutely, I think it’s retaliation,” said Hernandez. “The mayor was unhappy with the fact that she was getting investigated.”…
