Michigan’s biggest public university slipped five spots in the latest list of Best College Rankings from U.S. News and World Report released this week.
The University of Michigan, which was listed at No. 20 nationally last year for the 2026 rankings, fell to No. 25 – and it’s not alone. Roughly half of the 12 Michigan institutions listed out of more than 400 across the country fell at least several rankings, as several smaller institutions are climbing from the bottom.
