FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Dangerous drivers, beware. Police are targeting reckless red-light driving this month and hope that patrolling busy streets will remind bystanders to drive safely.
“It’s better to educate people and make them aware of stopping for the stoplight as opposed to riding a ticket,” Sgt. Shane Pulver, who heads the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) Traffic Unit, said.
The Traffic Unit stations at intersections that the public has expressed concern about. It’s a small team, making up less than 1% of the department’s total officers. However, Pulver said this patrol has a big impact, making about 25% of FWPD’s traffic stops.
