ANN ARBOR, MI — The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority’s latest plan for an extension of the Division Street protected bikeway to the Broadway bridges was unveiled during a community open house event Wednesday, Sept. 23.
New map diagrams show how the two-way cycle track could continue north from where it currently ends near Community High School and how the interchange at the south end of the bridges could be redesigned to improve safety.
They show the extended bikeway transitioning into a shared-use path just before a raised crossing at High and Carey streets to slow traffic and manage turn speeds, another adjacent crosswalk adjusted for better clearance and visibility, and a sharp right turn onto Broadway from Carey removed to address safety concerns.
The plans also call for flashing crosswalk signals, a consolidation of two bus stop locations, left-turn lane removal on Division, keeping two one-way northbound lanes for cars and removal of some parking while adding parking in some areas to keep roughly the same number of spaces, according to the DDA…
