SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) -The MSPCA-Angell and six partner animal welfare organizations across Massachusetts are waiving adoption fees for all dogs age 1 and older from Friday through Sunday.
Participating shelters hope to collectively rehome at least 100 dogs during the three-day event as capacity at regional facilities reaches tight levels. The adoption drive comes as dog adoptions across MSPCA-Angell centers have dropped 19% this year compared to the same period in 2025. While adoption rates have slowed, the pace of incoming dogs has remained steady alongside recent large surrenders of cats, creating space pressures across member shelters.
Fees are being waived across 10 locations, including four MSPCA-Angell adoption centers in Boston, Salem, Methuen and Centerville on Cape Cod.
