Kentucky spent all week trying to block out the noise. They didn’t block out enough. Self-inflicted mistakes put the Cats behind the 8-ball. Fortunately, a few late swings were enough to put Kentucky in front 24-21.
The Kentucky offense was stopped twice on fourth down. There was also a costly special teams mistake. Brock Coffman made the ill-advised decision to try to field a punt that bounced on the ground. He fumbled the ball, setting up an easy South Alabama touchdown.
There was a big swing just before halftime when Bo Barnes lowered his shoulder and blew up the USA quarterback on third and long. He was ejected for targeting, and South Alabama seized the momentum to march down the field and take the lead with just over a minute to play…
