Kentucky found itself in a dogfight in the second quarter against South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Kroger Field. The Wildcats needed to find some offensive answers after a couple of failed fourth down attempts. They went to what was working best.
A 75-yard touchdown sprint by Jason Patterson gave Kentucky some important Middle Eight points following a late touchdown drive by South Alabama. Then a 53-yard run by CJ Baxter led to points on the first drive of the third quarter that allowed the Cats to take a 31-21 lead. A 39-yard run by Jovantae Barnes on the next possession helped push the lead to 38-21. The game was never close after that. The Cats went run-heavy when they needed to flip this game.
That was by design. Will Stein wanted offensive coordinator Joe Sloan to run the damn ball…
