APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – After 33 years in business, the long-time owners of Mohnen’s Darboy Family Restaurant have announced the sale of their beloved community eatery.
In a heartfelt social media post, the Mohnen family revealed that ownership officially transferred last November to Reggie—owner and operator of Mary’s Family Restaurant in Appleton—and his family.
The family shared that the difficult decision to step away came following a serious health scare, which prompted a shift in focus toward health, family, and retirement.

“Through over 33 years of business, things have not been easy,” the family wrote. “Owning your own business becomes your entire life. It was early mornings, late nights, tiresome days, countless hours, sacrifices, stress, anxiety, laughter, emergencies, and so many memories that we will live with forever.”
Over three decades, the restaurant evolved from a neighborhood spot into a staple gathering place where the owners watched generations of local customers grow up, with the family saying, “The people we welcomed inside the restaurant walls became so familiar and like family.”…
