Rochester, N.Y. — The 3,500-foot boardwalk at Turning Point Park has been dedicated to the late Edward J. Doherty for 31 years of service to the City of Rochester.
Doherty served as Rochester’s budget director and commissioner of environmental services, where he helped envision the name and develop the Genesee Riverway Trail as a citywide greenway. Doherty retired from his city job in 2005, but continued to serve the community until his death on March 8th of this year, at age 76.
The boardwalk opened 20 years ago in 2006 and two years later the build won the American Public Works Association’s Project of the Year Award. Monday, the boardwalk finally gained a name for itself…
