MERIDIAN—The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho, known as COMPASS, will host economist Chris Behr this week for two free presentations on how to calculate the benefits and costs of active transportation projects such as bike paths and pedestrian bridges.
With transportation funding tight, officials say it is increasingly important to spend limited regional dollars wisely. But determining the worth of transportation projects can be difficult, particularly for active transportation, where few tools exist to weigh benefits against costs. That information can be invaluable when decision-makers face difficult choices about which projects to fund.
