[1] Widespread storms and cooler weather around New Mexico – By early Tuesday morning, widespread rain is expected across much of New Mexico. Another, potentially heavier, round of rain and thunderstorms will develop Tuesday afternoon and continue through Tuesday night as the upper-level storm moves closer and the remnants of Polo cross the state. Widespread 1-2″ of rain will be possible, with localized totals over 3″. By Wednesday, the heaviest rain should shift into northern New Mexico as drier air moves into southern and central parts of the state.
[2] CABQ closes Robinson Park for hours during day, driving out the homeless – The City of Albuquerque is closing a popular downtown park for hours during the day. The city admits Robinson Park has been home to drug activity. Reports in years past show the use of needles in the park and a drug bust. The city says they’re trying something new, closing the park for hours during the day. While acknowledging the parks’ history with drug activity, Director Simon said the change comes to allow Parks and Recreation teams to do maintenance. Director Simon said this is the first park in the city where they are testing this new schedule. The city says the new hours will not impact the Downtown Growers Market.
[3] Family, friends hold vigil for 11-year-old Albuquerque crash victim – Family and friends gathered Monday night to pay tribute to an 11-year-old boy killed in a crash in Albuquerque over the weekend. During a candlelight vigil at La Palomita Park Monday night, family and friends identified the boy as Braxton Ahasteen, who played youth football for the Sandia Matadors. Police said Malachi Velasquez-McCormick was with three others in a car and speeding on eastbound I-40. NMSP said Velasquez-McCormick tried to move into the right lane to pass a semi-truck and returned to the left lane, but hit another vehicle. Both cars rolled over. Police say Velasquez-McCormick admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana before the crash…
