ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The deadline for Waterview Heights nursing home to close passed Tuesday, but the facility did not meet it and 13 residents still have nowhere to go.
This is the second deadline the nursing home has missed, and the Department of Health said the facility must stay open until every resident is safely placed in another facility. For years, News10NBC investigations have reported on problems inside Waterview Heights, including residents lying for hours in their own waste, bed sores that led to sepsis and death, and allegations of sexual assault.
Federal leaders determined shutting Waterview Heights was the only way to keep residents safe, but the closure has been traumatic for those who live there. Some family members have been told the only available facilities are miles away…
