Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken on Wednesday evening updated the public on a fatal crash investigation from Tuesday.
During a news conference at the Ocala Police Headquarters Community Room, at 402 S. Pine Ave., Balken stated that both occupants of a minivan involved in a fatal crash in southeast Ocala early Tuesday gave indications of impairment on body camera footage from an unrelated stop by OPD officers minutes before the crash but were allowed to leave without investigation.
Balken called the situation of “deeply serious” concern and said “immediate steps have been taken to launch an internal affairs investigation into a devastating incident.”…
