Wednesday’s Five Facts

[1] Lingering flooding and cool weather across New Mexico – Morning rain showers is widespread Wednesday. Scattered showers and some thunderstorms will spiral across the western region to the east with more high-elevation snow in northern areas. Rounds of storms will continue today but as this merging system of storms moves out, backdoor cold-front winds will pick up late today into tomorrow.

[2] Remnants of Hurricane Polo impacting multiple areas across New Mexico – As remnants from Hurricane Polo continue to move through the state, Bernalillo County said they’ve been on high alert. Bernalillo County Fire Chief Zach Lardy said they’ve been preparing for days and handing out sandbags for residents. During last week’s storm they county had to pump over a million gallons of water, and they are on track to do the same during this storm.

[3] Communities hit hard by flooding in Socorro County – In Socorro County, storm damage is expected to reach millions of dollars as several homes and roads have been destroyed by floodwaters. One community that was hit hard was Luis Lopez, which is home to many farmers. A handful of homes have been flooded, and a road called Farm Market has been turned into a lake. County Road 91 and the I-25 frontage road in the Polvadera-area are closed. Socorro County commissioners made an emergency declaration, hoping to receive funding from the Governor’s Office for recovery efforts…
