Ringgold woman celebrates 110 years

Margaret Watson Atkinson Pentecost of Ringgold is one of a rare rank of supercentenarians in the country, which means living for more than 40,000 days.

Pentecost was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sept. 16, 1916, during World War I. She lives with her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Ken Anderson, in the Northwest Georgia city.

She remembers crossing the Atlantic Ocean at age 7, on the TSS Cameronia, checking the ship’s daily dinner menu for “ice cream.” Finally landing at Ellis Island, New York, the little family boarded a cross-continental train for Southern California, where they settled and began a new life: “British by birth, Americans by choice.”…
